Day 4: Food Porn

So we have established that exercise is actually going ok, and probably not the reason I gain weight. For me it is about the food. Like Dawson’s love for Joey. I’m Dawson obviously (on account of the awkward fringe game) and Joey’s the food. I love it, it’s my soulmate but all it does tease me and give me empty joy. We go back and forth, on and off but I always know we’re doomed!

Over time I have innocently liked/followed ALL of the food pages on social media. Local burger restaurants, delicious Mexican’s that ruin your life when they close down (I miss you Tex Mex), bakeries, even the local chippy. Not to mention pages like Buzzfeed Food, Food Porn and so on. I would even screen shot and send them to friends, aka my enablers (you know who you are!) or tag them in it so they could share the joy. It was only as I scrolled through my Instagram one day and a friend pointed out that literally every picture on my feed was food…intervention time! I’m not really sure why I do it, I guess it’s the old ‘you always want what you can’t have’ bollocks.

I read in a book that you shouldn’t associate pain and pleasure to the same thing. For example, I love burgers, I love Mac & Cheese, I love chips, that’s the pleasure. But I know I shouldn’t eat them….hence the pain! I feel fairly confident that this is a pile of psycho babble poo, because everyone does that right? So maybe I need to ‘de food porn’ my social media life and hit up some FPA (Food Porn Anonymous, ‘Hi my name’s Bex and I break a sweat when I miss a meal’). I have been through Instagram and Facebook and reluctantly unliked/unfollowed all of the offenders. Consider the food porn eradicated! No more drooling over Mimi’s latest traybake, or Cuckoo’s easter themed cupcakes, or Red’s True BBQ and their holy holy meat and criminally delicious nachos! Instead I have swapped them for some ‘less porn, more PG hand holding’ alternatives. I know what you’re thinking….that sounds shit! It’s not really. Day 4: Shred Log

Breakfast – Scrambled eggs, chorizo & guacamole

I am not a morning person! I get up with just enough time to wash, dress and get out the house, but this morning I got up early to make this delicious fella. Weirdly I never used to like guacamole but now I am obsessed with it. It’s SO easy to make your own and tastes so much better than any you can buy.

Lunch – Leftover turkey meatballs & courgetti

Leftovers from last night’s dinner. I changed it up a bit with the courgetti. I have a spiraliser which I love, but it is a handheld one which means I can really only get courgette and carrot through it. This time I was lazy and picked up some while in Tesco as they usually have it on 3 for 2.

Dinner – Piri piri hache steak & a baked sweet potato

Another dip into my Muscle Food freezer stash. These are so tasty, their meat is so much better than anything you can get in the supermarket. Then for the first time, I used my slow cooker to bake my sweet potato through the day. As I knew I wouldn’t be home until late from my personal training session, I didn’t want to have to do much when I got in so this worked perfectly. I just wrapped it in tinfoil, popped it in the slow cooker and cooked on low for 8 hours (probably only needed 4, it was a wee bit mushy).

Drinks & snacks – Bootea, approx 3 litres water & some pineapple

Exercise – 1 hour personal training session (NB. Tonight we distracted her with peppermint tea….win!)


Today’s top tip – You can’t feel hungry when you’re sleeping. Take a nap, have an early night, hibernate, just for god’s sake stay away from the chocolate tin!

  1. Soooo with you on the food porn addiction. I follow random chefs I don’t know just to gaze longingly at their pics. I rate celebrity chefs up there with Hollywood actors. I have been known to watch Masterchef South Africa…the list of sins is lengthy. But I just love food!!!

  2. Me and my friend swapped instas to see what our favourite pics were (I don’t know why but it turned out to be fun and interesting) and she noticed all my faves are food and cute babies! So I don’t think you are alone in this Bex! I’d say be selective a keep a couple of your faves. Thanks for your recomendations I’ll give them a follow x
